Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a 5K? 10K? Half-Marathon? 55k?
5 kilometers = 3.1 miles
10 kilometers = 6.2 miles
Half Marathon = 13.1 miles (21.1 kilometers)
55k = 34.175 miles

Can I wear headphones?
Yes, but we ask that you keep the volume down at a safe level so that you can hear other runners or instructions from event personnel. We also ask that you remove them, or, at the very least, remove one ear bud when you are coming to aid stations or in a crowd. The important thing is paying attention to everyone's safety and maintaining basic race etiquette with other runners.

Are there restrooms or port-a-potties on the course?
There are portable toilets near the start/finish area  and on the course, located around miles 2, 5, 8, and 10 for the half. There will be hand washing stations and plenty of hand sanitizer available.

What about Aid Stations?
Yes, there are plenty of well stocked aid stations along all routes. Please see Race Day Information page for specific details.

Can I register on the day of the race?
Yes, but the price does increase and we can't guarantee schwag for race day registrants. NOTE: There is NO Race Day Registration for the 55k.

Will there be age group awards?
Yes!
We recognize and award the top finishers in age brackets for each race distance.Whether you're a seasoned trail runner or tackling the challenge for the first time, this is your chance to push yourself and be recognized for your hard work.
All awards are given based on GUN time.
Age Brackets:
0-7 yr
8-12 yr
13-15
16-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60-69
70-79
80+
No Double-Dipping for Awards: To spread the love and recognize as many runners as possible, we have a no double-dipping policy for awards. If a runner places in the Overall Top 3, they will not also receive an Age Group award. Instead, the Age Group award will roll down to the next eligible finisher in that category. We believe this gives more runners the opportunity to be recognized for their hard work and achievement on race day!

When and where do I pick up my bib/race packet?
Packet pickup on the day of the race will be available from 6:00 a.m. - 6:40 a.m. MDT for the 55k runners at the Owyhee Watershed Council building next to the Two Rivers Park.

All other distances (5k, 10k, Half) will pick up packets from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at the Adrian High School New Gym. Registered participants will receive detailed information about packet pick-up via email.

I am a very slow runner. Am I going to be out of place?
For the 5k and 10k, you won't be out of place at all. This is a community event and is open to participants of all abilities -- including walkers/hikers.
The half and 55k are technical courses and require training and preparation. Both events do have time limits.

Is there a time limit?
Hosting a great event, requires the service of many, many volunteers. Out of respect for our volunteers' time, we do have time limits for the 55k and Half Marathon. Time limits are listed below:
Half Marathon: 4 hours
55K: 10 hours

Are there showers available?
Yes, the high school shower rooms will be open at 11:30 a.m. for out-of-the-area participants to use to shower up before hitting the road home. We will use the back door of the high school gym for the showers. Watch for signs.

Can my dog run with me during the race?
Unfortunately NO. As much as we love dogs and running with our own, not everyone is comfortable being around dogs (even if leashed) and for reasons of safety (for those with two legs and four) we ask runners not to bring their dogs along for the race. Service dogs are allowed.

Are strollers allowed?
For the safety of all participants, strollers and baby joggers are NOT permitted on the course. The Owyhee Off-Road Challenge takes place on rugged, uneven terrain that makes it unsafe for strollers and joggers of any kind. We love families and encourage you to bring your little ones out to cheer you on at the Start/Finish line — we just ask that strollers stay off the course. Thank you for understanding and helping us keep everyone safe on race day!

Will the race be cancelled if it rains?
The race will be held, rain or shine. Courses may be modified to account for weather conditions.  Note: In the event of severe weather, disaster, pandemic, or emergency occurrences, the event may be canceled to protect the safety and health of the participants and volunteers.

Can I get a refund if I can not participate?
Unfortunately we do not offer refunds for any of the events. Costs associated with the pre-planning and ordering of participant amenities well in advance of the race prohibit us from offering refunds. In addition, refunds are not issued if the event is cancelled due to pandemic, severe weather, disaster or emergency occurrences that may affect the safety and health of the participants.

Can I transfer my registration/bib to a friend if I can't participate?

Yes, you can transfer your registration to a friend
To do so, log in to your RunSignup account, navigate to your registration, and select the option to transfer your registration to another runner. The recipient will receive your registration at no cost. Please note that the original registrant will not receive a refund. Transfers must be completed before online registration closes — no transfers will be accepted after that date.
Need Help? Visit RunSignup's help page here.

Can I change distances once I've registered?
Yes.
RunSignup allows you to manage your own registration. Simply log in to your RunSignup account, navigate to your registration, and select the option to change your event distance. If you switch to a higher-priced distance, you will be charged the difference in registration cost. Please note that no refunds will be issued if you switch to a lower-priced distance. If you have any trouble making the change, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to help!

Are there team discounts?
Sorry, t
here are no team discounts offered.

Will there be food provided after the runs?
Yes, there will be a FREE Post-Race "light" meal for participants, (does not include 55k pacers) as well as water, chocolate milk, and Gatorade. We've heard your requests and this year will be providing chicken burrito bowls to help you recover from the Challenge. There might be brownies, as well.

Are spectators and guests allowed?

Yes! There are locations throughout town where spectators may go to cheer you on being safe and using proper Social distance guidelines.

No spectator vehicles are allowed on the off-road portion of the course. The finish for all distances will come down Emerald Slope Road which would be a good place to cheer, as well.

Don't miss out on the most beautiful and challenging run in the Treasure Valley!
